There is no single best combination. Among commerce combinations for PUC, EBAC (with Computer Science) suits students drawn to technology, EBAS (with Statistics) suits those who like data, and a Basic Mathematics option suits students who want it kept. All of these lead to B.Com, BBA and CA, so choose by interest and by what your college lists.
Commerce covers accounts, business and economics, and students pick it after Class 10 for routes into finance, management and professional courses such as CA. The choice that follows looks small and is not: which fourth subject to place beside Accountancy, Business Studies and Economics. Karnataka colleges list several four-subject sets under short codes such as EBAC or SEBA, and the menu differs by college. This guide decodes those codes, compares EBAC, EBAS and EBAM, and ties each to a goal.

Pre-University Course (PUC) is the two-year stage after Class 10 in Karnataka, covering 1st and 2nd PUC. A commerce PUC combination is the set of four subjects a student takes alongside languages; the colleges checked for this guide pair English with Kannada, Hindi or Sanskrit. Anyone researching the commerce stream after 10th, or comparing streams after 10th in commerce, is really choosing that set, because it shapes revision, entrance preparation and the degrees that follow.
Combinations vary by college. Nitte’s PU college page lists BAES, BASC, BAEB and EBAC, while Krupanidhi’s PU course page lists HEBA, CEBA, MEBA and SEBA. Same subjects, different codes and different menus, so check a college’s own list before committing.
Accountancy, Business Studies and Economics form the core of most combinations above. The fourth subject is where they differ: Computer Science, Statistics, Basic Mathematics or, at some colleges, History. Mathematics appears in commerce only as Basic Mathematics, in the lists checked.
Searches for the best combination in PUC commerce expect a ranking. A ranking would be misleading, because the combinations share three of four subjects. Compare the fourth subject:
| Combination | Fourth subject | Suits a student who | Listed by SVG? |
| EBAC | Computer Science | likes technology and wants IT or analytics options | Yes |
| EBAS | Statistics | is comfortable with data and numbers, short of full Maths | Yes |
| EBAM | Basic Mathematics | wants Mathematics kept in the picture (coded MEBA or BAEB elsewhere) | Not on its course list |
The fourth subject is one of four, so let it break a tie, not drive the decision.
Why choose EBAC? Computer Science adds a technical subject to a business core, which suits students who already enjoy computers. Krupanidhi’s page describes the equivalent combination (CEBA) as business-oriented and suited to aspiring entrepreneurs.
Career options after further studies: B.Com, BBA, CA, and data or technology-linked business degrees. Some of those ask for Mathematics at PU level, so confirm each course’s eligibility before choosing.
Why choose EBAS? Statistics rewards patience with data, tables and interpretation. It suits a student who wants numbers without full Mathematics, and Krupanidhi’s equivalent (SEBA) is also pitched at future entrepreneurs.
Career options after further studies: B.Com, BBA, economics and finance degrees, and CA. A student aiming at research-style data courses should check eligibility first.
Why choose EBAM? Colleges code this MEBA or BAEB and list Basic Mathematics, which is separate from the science-stream Mathematics. It keeps the maths habit alive for students who like it. SVG’s course list shows EBAC and EBAS only, so a student set on Mathematics should look at colleges that list it.
Career options after further studies: The same routes: B.Com, BBA and CA. Krupanidhi’s page says CA remains possible after MEBA.
This is the same four-subject set as EBAC, so the real decision is Computer Science versus Statistics versus Basic Mathematics as the fourth subject. If two of them appeal, ask the college about sample classes and ask senior students what the workload is like.
| Goal | Combination to lean towards | Check first |
| Chartered Accountancy | Any; choose by comfort | ICAI’s current Foundation rules |
| Banking and finance | Any, with strong Accountancy and Economics | Each recruiter’s notification |
| Business management | Any; Business Studies is common to all | BBA entry rules of each university |
| Computer science and data analysis | EBAC or EBAS | Whether the degree demands Maths at PU level |
ICAI’s own FAQ says a candidate may register for the Foundation course after passing Class 10, and may sit the exam after appearing in the Class 12 examination, with a minimum four-month registration period before the exam. It names no stream and no Mathematics requirement. Foundation exams are held three times a year, in January, May and September, and Paper 3 includes Business Mathematics. The ICAI FAQ on CA courses is dated 2024, so confirm current rules before you plan.
Accountancy and Economics are the closest school-level match to finance coursework. Treat them as preparation, not eligibility: bank and finance recruiters publish their own rules.
Business Studies covers how firms are organised and run, and every combination includes it. For entrepreneurship, the fourth subject matters less than practice: case work, presentations and small projects.
EBAC suits a student who wants to work with software, EBAS one who wants to work with data. Eligibility for higher education courses varies by institution, so read each prospectus before assuming either one opens the door.
Options in commerce after 10th continue into degrees after PUC. Our guide to commerce courses after 10th covers the full course map; these are the main routes. Verify each course’s admission requirements.

Two further professional qualifications run by their own institutes, each with its own entry route; check both institutes’ current rules.
Economics, finance, banking and analytics degrees all accept commerce students in principle. For entrance tests and jobs, see our notes on competitive exams in commerce and government exams after 12th commerce.
Work through these in order:
SVG Centre of Excellence PU College in Mysuru lists two commerce combinations on its website, EBAC and EBAS, so students who want EBAM should confirm availability before applying. Its commerce section also lists CA Foundation coaching alongside the PUC course and a diploma in Advanced Financial Accounting. Ask the college for the diploma’s duration, awarding body and eligibility, and for the current coaching format.
More detail sits on its course page and in its PU colleges in Mysore overview. For admissions, the college lists +91 9482893209 and management@svgeducationalfoundation.in, at No 1896, 1749, Sridevi Hospital Road, near Sridevi Hospital, Chamaraja Mohalla, Bogadi 2nd Stage, Mysuru, Karnataka 570009.
Pick the combination that matches your interest, your strengths and the degree you want, not a trend or a friend’s choice. Then check higher education eligibility and confirm that the college lists the combination.

1. Which is the best combination in PUC commerce?
No single one. EBAC suits students who like technology, EBAS suits those who like data, and a Basic Mathematics option suits students who want Mathematics kept. All lead to B.Com, BBA and CA, so choose by interest and by what your college lists.
2. What is the difference between EBAC and EBAS?
Both include Economics, Business Studies and Accountancy. EBAC adds Computer Science and EBAS adds Statistics, so the choice is between software-style work and data-style work.
3. Is Mathematics compulsory in PUC commerce?
No. In the Karnataka college lists checked, most commerce combinations have no Mathematics, and Basic Mathematics appears only in some, such as MEBA. Check your college’s own list, since menus differ.
4. Can I become a CA after commerce PUC without Mathematics?
ICAI’s FAQ sets no stream or Mathematics requirement: you can register after Class 10 and sit the Foundation exam after appearing in Class 12. Paper 3 includes Business Mathematics, so prepare for it. Confirm current rules with ICAI.
5. Does my combination affect B.Com or BBA admission?
Admission rules are set by each university and course, so no single answer fits everywhere. Read the prospectus of your target course before finalising a combination.
